Buona Vita, Inc. has recalled approximately 324,770 pounds of various frozen, ready-to-eat meat and poultry products due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, according to the the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
The packages bear the establishment number "P-954" or "Est. 954" inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were sold to distribution facilities nationwide. (Product list on the next page) The retail distribution list is posted on FSIS' website at www.fsis.usda.gov/FSIS_Recalls/ Open_Federal_Cases/index.asp.
The company has not received reports of illnesses due to consumption of these products.
Anyone who has the recalled product in their possession should not consume it and should destroy or discard it Consumers with questions about the recall should contact Buona Vita, Inc. at (856) 453-7972 between 5 am and 3 pm Pacific Time.
Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease. Listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, and nausea. Listeriosis can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths. The very young, the pregnant, the elderly, and persons with compromised immune systems are the most susceptible to infection. People experiencing these symptoms should seek immediate medical attention.
