Dr. Moreno’s appointment was approved Tuesday by the Board of Supervisors.
Monterey County Health Department Director Ray Bullick is pleased to announce that Edward L. Moreno, M.D., M.P.H. has been selected as Health Officer. The appointment of Dr. Moreno was approved by the Board of Supervisors Tuesday. The Health Officer provides leadership for the public health protection, health policy development and serves as an advisor to elected and appointed officials, members of the medical profession, and the public on matters affecting public health and safety.
“We are all looking forward to welcoming Dr. Moreno to the Health Department” said Ray Bullick. “I am confident that as Health Officer, his leadership and professional experience will be a great match for our work toward a healthier and safer Monterey County.”
Dr. Moreno earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine, and his Masters Degree in Public Health from California State University, Fresno. In addition to his training in public health, Dr. Moreno received his BS in Microbiology from the University of Notre Dame. Dr. Moreno is board certified in Pediatrics and Public Health, and was the Health Officer for Fresno County for 10 years.
Dr. Moreno will begin his service July 1, 2013.
Dr. Caroline Kennedy has served in the capacity of Interim Health Officer since February when Dr. Lisa Hernandez left to take the position of Health Officer of Santa Cruz County.
